Life, in all its perfect imperfection, is the ground of my practice. I mold and shape clay into constructed deconstructions - forms that embody both fracture and wholeness, holding the echoes of memory, ritual, and lived experience.
The clay move through my hands, becoming objects that speak of continuity and transformation. Textures and patterns, sometimes imprinted onto the clay, bind the tapestry of life to the surfaces I create. Each work is a meditation on fragility and resilience, a reflection of the beauty of life and the journey.
Lois Samuels is a Jamaican-born artist whose ceramic practice is rooted in storytelling, craftsmanship, and a reverence for form.
She creates hand-built, one-of-a-kind pieces that embody quiet strength and timeless beauty. Her journey with clay has taken her from traditional wood firing studies in Italy to a recent artist residency in Greece, and has been featured in magazines as Wallpaper Magazine, C Magazine and California Home and Design.
Represented by Twentieth Gallery, Lois has participated in the 2025 Frieze Art Fair in Los Angeles and her first solo showing in Paris during the Ceramic Art Fair in October 2025.
Before dedicating herself fully to ceramics, Lois built a celebrated career in fashion as both a model (represented by Iconic Focus/US) and fashion designer.
Her work in fashion was widely published and shaped her refined understanding of silhouette, texture, and the dialogue between body and form, sensibilities that continue to influence her sculptural practice today.
She continues to expand her practice through experimentation and a deep connection to nature, spirituality and the rhythms of life.
