moments in the studio
captured by Brigette Sire
Here, I’m demonstrating the building techniques from my *OPEN* series which I first began making on my kitchen table - a place one comes open to give, receive and be their true selves. These textured pieces are molded together layer by layer following an imperfectly perfect, organically circular route reflecting the cycles of life. The textured surfaces and embellishments conveys what’s woven into the tapestry of our life experiences - the motions, movements and journeys, which all tell a story.… and yes! I do speak to my pieces, and many times share some hearty laughs and a good giggle.

SANKOFA
Sankofa is a series of anthropomorphic figures inspired by the works of several tribes from ancient African civilizations as the Akan tribe in Ghana, and Mangbetu tribe from Congo
The word Sankofa comes from the Twi language out of Ghana and it means - to go back and get it.
Creating this series reconnects me with the mystery from the past, the beauty in its simplicity and relationship with nature. All pieces are hand-built, using pinch, coil and slab methods on varying clay bodies.
